Pacing Calculator FAQ

Pacing application to do load and Performance Testing.

1) I have downloaded the app now what ?

Follow the instructions below to obtain the accurate pacing to mimic production load :

  1. [OBTAIN BASELINE PACING VALUES] Enter 100000 in the Number of Transactions per day field and fill up the relevant information. Once you have filled up all the information click on the submit button. You will get the minimum and maximum pacing for the baseline.

  2. [OBTAIN BASELINE TRANSACTIONS PER HOUR AND THROUGHPUT IN BYTES/SEC] use the values obtained in step 1 and run the load test. Once the load test is finished get the transactions per hour and throughput  per hour values from the result.

  3. [OBTAIN ACTUAL THROUGHPUT PER DAY] This value needs to be obtained from network or operations group. You should convert the bits per second values to bytes per second and this value will be your throughput that you would need in order to obtain your production load.

  4. [CALCULATE ACTUAL NUMBER OF TRANSACTIONS] In order to do this go to the actual tab and enter the values obtained from step 2 and step 3 and you would get the actual number of transactions per day.

  5. [CALCULATE THE PRODUCTION PACING VALUES] In order to do this please enter the value obtained from step 4 in the baseline screen ( Number of Transactions per day text field) change the name (Ex: Actual Test) and enter all the relevant information similar to baseline and hit submit. Thats it !!! You have successfully calculated production pacing values.

  6. Optional Step: If your application has multiple groups or types of user use the % calculation for group tab to calculate pacing based on percentage. Once everything is calculated go to the results tab and email all the results.

2) My tool does not have minimum and maximum pacing?

Then use the average pacing or pacing which is (minimum+maximum)/2

3) My tool does not have virtual users?

Simply use the threads as users in your scenario.

4) My load testing environment is not the same as production?

Simply scale it down as explained in the home screen. Once you know the actual transactions you can divide it by the percentage distributions and do a scalability testing.

5) I do not have option for think time?

Do not use think time just put 0 for think time and in the Total think time field.

6) Why does it show invalid pacing error message?

The values entered to calculate pacing might not be valid. Please use info icons if you need additional information of the text fields.
